Historically, drug discovery widely relied on the serendipity of the medicinal chemists. In the early twentieth century, there was a paradigm shift in this field due to significant advancement in computer modelling techniques, X-ray crystallography, molecular and cell biology. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the world sees a strong partnership between several disciplines including biotechnology, pharmacology and toxicology for the modern rational drug and vaccine discovery.
